A Crazy Taxi Tour – Kyoto and Hibike Euphonium (Part 2)

Mount Daikichiyama

I walked all the way from Asuka’s bridge, along the river, and back to the shrine at the foot of Mount Daikichiyama, where Kumiko and Reina start the walk to the top of the mountain. After the brief stop with the taxi driver here, I was determined to go to the top. My timing was also great, as the sun was beginning to set, so I could get some night-time views like in the anime. To better optimise my path and minimise walking, I went straight up the mountain and went to the shrine after. This shot is looking in the wrong direction but again, I didn’t fully prepare a/b shots so…

It actually was a bit of a trek, more difficult than it looks on the map due to the ascent.

It wasn’t long before I made it to the top. I had a sip from a bottle of aquarius I aquired from a kombini earlier.

I have some screens from both season 1 and 2 because why not. It wasn’t as dark as it could be compared to the anime but I really don’t have equipment that’s capable in light that low. The lights still look pretty though.

This shot of uji from up here comes up often in the anime, and I managed to capture it with my main camera in long exposure mode while holding it veeeeery steady.

After my descent I decided it would be a good idea to revisit the temple at the foot of the mountain again, to try and capture it at night, since it’s Kumiko and Reina start their hike there pretty late.

Uji at Night

Shinto shrines at night are really something else. You don’t see them both empty and at night as a foreigner, and this one happened to be decorated with these beautiful candle lanterns.

The place had a mystical atmosphere about it. I wondered across the road by the front entrance and onto the bridge to cross to the island in the centre of the river. I snapped this shot of a train crossing by the road bridge.

It was getting quite late and it was almost completely dark.

And another shot from the other bridge that leads back into the river bank on the other side.

I tried really really hard to find the location in the movie, where Suichi and Kumiko are walking together late at night and I managed to find this.

But after trying to follow their footsteps but I couldn’t find any buildings that looked similar to the ones in the following screens in the direction they were headed.

I was thinking maybe the park nearby and the buildings opposite might have changed, but I’m not sure. Oh well. I went back the way I came to go back towards the bridge with the main road. I passed by a very nice looking Starbucks that was closing up.

P1023052

I crossed the main Uji bridge again and took some night snaps.

And then I headed into Keihan Uji station for some final shot. The number of moths and insects flying around in there from the bright lights was actually overwhelming. You’ll see in the images there are clouds of them.

I hopped on the train in the image which was literally departed seconds after I entered, and it took me all the way back to central Kyoto where my hostel was.

Again, it’s hard to find time to write this but I’m doing it where I can. Next up, a visit to Tokyo tower, Kyoto station, a brief excursion to the Fushimi Inari shrine, and then the Kyoto concert hall! Following that, it’s onto Yuru Camp season 2 content!!! Stay tuned 🙂
