A Mysterious Torii Gate and a Rather Large Bridge – Yuru Camp Backpacking Part 5

I hopped off the bus from my previous location in Hamamatsu city and hopped onto a train to take me along the coast a little bit, to a couple of locations that Rin visits solo in episode 3 of season 2. My stop was Bentenjima. Rin stays at Nagisaen Camping Ground on the reclaimed island further north, but I didn’t visit since I wasn’t staying there. Kinda regret it though.

I should start including maps on all my posts…

To cross the road from the station you have to head through an underpass.

But what’s that in one of the windows?

P1023200

It’s a poster promoting season 2 of the live action version of Yuru Camp!

On the left looks like a Hamamatsu Yuru Camp location guide, and on the right, a guide for Izu (where I’m going after Hamamatsu). Should have snapped some close-ups.

I exited the underpass and headed a few buildings down the road to the first of the two locations.

Kaishunro Hotel and the Ikarise Torii

Rin visits this hotel after having a look at the beach to warm herself up in the public bath. I’ll be doing the reverse. I was tempted to have a bathe myself but I decided against it. I wouldn’t be able to take any photos inside anyway. Here’s the entrance from the road though.

The main part of the spot I wanted to visit was on the other side of the building, and I had to walk a little further along the road until I found a path to the lakeside next to a mini shrine.

I was greeted by this rather large Yuru Camp board!

P1023210

To the right we can see the balcony of the hotel that Rin had her bath.

P1023211

And right in front of the hotel is the torii gate in the lake, with a cut-out of the main gang!

P1023214

After I’d finished admiring the mysterious torii gate, I headed east along the lakeside towards the beach.

Imakiriguchi Maisaka Embankment

While walking along the lakeside, I crossed a bridge that we can see from one of the other bridges in a shot in the intro to the episode. Notice the same tall safety barriers.

P1033223

I passed by many small marinas and fishing ports, which was clearly a significant industry in the area. There were big ice dispensers and large warehouses with productivity lines for processing the fresh fish coming off the boats.

P1033226

And there were plenty of birds around trying to steal any fish that they could get a hold of.

P1033228

It was a bit of a walk, as you can see on my phone.

P1033232

I passed by a rather overgrown “toilet house”, whatever that means 🙂

P1033231

I eventually made it to the car park for the embankment.

P1033233

The bridge looming over the area is “Hamana Bridge” which carries what looks like the large expressway “1” linking Hamamatsu to its neighbouring cities.

P1033234

At the end of the car park was a teeny path leading onto the embankment.

P1033236

And climbing over the wall we have a great view.

P1033237

That sign on the right specifically warns people to not go past the safety barriers, but as you can see the fishermen didn’t seem to mind.

There was another big fence up ahead, but since I could see more fishermen on the other side, I hopped over it. I’m well aware of the dangers in areas like this, and I’m guessing they’ve had some bad experiences with people that aren’t. Be very cautious and stay away from the water’s edge, even on the beach. A sense of danger on long flat beaches like this can be very deceptive. Sinking sand and strong currents are extremely tough to fight against.

After hopping over the fence, I took these snaps:

I had a little walk over to the sand dunes on the beach and tried to approximate the shot of Rins chill spot the best I could. It was pretty desolate though.

P1033250

And taking a look to the left we can see just how barren this bit of coast is.

P1033247

I took a couple more final shots around the area.

P1033248

There’s this shot right next to the water’s edge, but I didn’t want to go near it as it made me feel a little uneasy.

P1033251

I took a couple more photos before heading back the way I came to Bentenjima station.

P1033252
P1033253

On the way, I spotted two fighter jets performing what could be a test flight. Cool to see.

P1033257

Back at Bentenjima station while waiting, shinkansen’s flew past every 5 minutes or so, since the line I was on ran adjacent to the Toukaidou line. Not at top speed though, but still pretty impressive.

I hopped back on the train to take me to Shinjohara Station, where I’d change lines to take me to my lunch spot for some delicious eel (the place that Rin and Nadeshiko visit together). Stay tuned for that!
