Okuouikojou Station
After entering a long tunnel, we broke into the daylight to see the long red bridge ahead of us.
In the distance we could see another platform of people all with their phones out.
I hopped off the train and followed in Nadeshiko’s footsteps along the other side of the bridge. I’d come back to take pictures of the station itself later. I had limited time to take the money shot before the next train.

The train trundled past and disappeared into the other tunnel ahead.

I began climbing the steps ahead.

There were a LOT of them. With my heavy pack on it was a real chore.

Eventually I reached the top.

And walked a few steps along the road to reach THE spot. I’ve never seen a train station like it.

After taking in the view for a bit, I headed back down all those steps and along the bridge, back to the station.
I took some shots of the station itself.

I walked along the other end of the platform.

On the island above the platform there was a cafe. I had about 5 minutes until my train back down, so I hurried up and got myself a fresh lemonade.
Eventually my train arrived, and I hopped on.
During the ride I spotted the conductor probably communicating with the driver with a super retro phone. These trains must have been pretty old.
I also spotted the remains of what looked like a previous route for the line, perhaps it sustained some typhoon damage a long time ago.
I rode the train all the way back down to ABT-Ichishiro, where I would make my way to the campsite.
So it’s been taking me far too long to write these. This post is already getting pretty long, so I decided to cut this here and post a part 2 later. So much has changed since my last post. I’ve just about settled into my new place in London so hopefully I’ll have more time to write these now. Missing my time in Japan already, hope I’ll get to go back soon 🙂 See you in part 2!

I’m loving your blog – and very much hoping to follow in (some) of your footsteps later this year when I’m back in Japan! I look forward to part two of this series. 😊
P.S. Some of your photos are incredibly similar to the anime!
