Suspension Bridges and Mountain Trains! (Part 2) – Yuru Camp Backpacking Season 3

Go and read part one if you haven’t already!!

ABT-Ichishiro Station

Back at the bottom of the steep section of track where the larger locomotive coupled with the small train, this was the nearest stop to the campsite – illustrated by this handy map from the anime.

The train shortly left and I snapped this pic of the empty station from the pedestrian crossing over the tracks.

And looking towards the tiny station building.

P1040885

Inside the building there were two Yuru Camp posters, one for the manga and another for the anime!

I followed Nadeshikos footsteps out the other side towards the main road, and snapped this pic looking back at the building.

P1040889

Just as I was walking off, the big loco powered past on its own.

P1040890

I kept on walking.

P1040892

On the side of the road, there was a sign for the campsite.

P1040891
P1040893

Just before Nadeshiko keeps going she stops and has a look at the suspension bridge next to the railroad crossing. Again, I didn’t have any means of capturing an FOV this wide, so I tried my best.

P1040894
P1040897

I followed the sign from earlier down the side of the railway line.

P1040898

Right at the end of this path, there’s a sharp turn left, that reveals the entrance to a deep, dark tunnel. This was likely where the line went before the dam was built, and there’s more clues to this later.

P1040901

It was a bit scary o_o

P1040902

The tunnel was so so dark. No lights were on like in the anime.

Something either fun or really scary, the locals created handcrafted “ghosts” every dozen meters or so, that have detectors on them that activate when they detect a person. They were a nowhere near as cute as the show makes them out to be. Super cool though!

My phone makes them look like found footage.

ABT-Ichishiro Campsite

Eventually I made it out of the tunnel, which opened up right on the campsite. I made my way to the site building to check myself in.

P1040909

Then I made my way down to the camping area.

P1040910

I made sure to book a spot closest to the water, like the girls do in the show.

P1040916
P1040920

With my tent pitched, I had a look round the campsite and snapped some more pics.

P1040917

I headed back up to the main campsite building.

The tiny reception room had a shelf with Yuru Camp merch and goods, so I bought myself some.

P1040927

I snapped this pic of the view from just outside my tent.

P1040928

Then I started on my way to check out the nearby park and dam.

Nagashima Dam

I followed a little road up the hill from the campsite.

P1040931
P1040932

Until it joined up to a familiar looking road.

P1040933
P1040934

I reached the park that Nadeshiko crosses through to get to a view point of the dam. It seemed like it was tied to some sort of Dam museum. It looked closed though.

P1040939

Just crossing over that mini suspension bridge let me to the spot.

P1040940

Looking down made me feel a little giddy – I’m not the best with heights

P1040942

I spotted the pole thing with the symbol on it that Nadeshiko deemed too hard to imitate.

P1040943

I took a slightly different route back through the park and passed by this rather large stone.

P1040948

It wasn’t too long until I reached the end of the dam. You can see the view point where I was before.

P1040950

And the tracks for the mountain train on the other side of the valley.

P1040951

Walking along, there were these interesting traffic calming paintings on the road.

P1040953

Turning around we can see the big signage on the hill next to the dam.

P1040954

And another shot more towards the middle of the dam back the other way.

P1040956

There was a little platform up on the left.

P1040959

With a very scary drop looking down o_o

P1040957

I snapped this shot looking over the other side of the dam at the reservoir.

P1040961

And another towards the dam building with an impressive looking slipway thing.

P1040962

Then I continued on my way towards the train station at the top of the steep section, next to the dam, crossing the road and over this little bridge.

P1040963

I reached the platform and took my shots.

P1040964
P1040966

I had a peek into the station building and there were some more Yuru Camp posters up, as well as some photo’s I’m guessing from fans of the railway.

P1040967

On the pedestrian barrier outside the building there was this cool plaque.

P1040970

Close to the station I found my way into a carpark to take this other shot of the dam we see in the show.

P1040972

As I headed back over the dam to the campsite, a fountain erupted from the reservoir!

P1040980

I had the usual Yuru Camp dinner: curry cup ramen, before heading to bed.

Next up, the bridges of dreams and potato mochi at Sumatakyo Onsen! Stay tuned! (I’ll try not to take months to write the next one lol)
